On 9 January we were treated to a delightful talk on “Jewish Humour through the Ages”, by Mr Alex Bennett, a former minister of the synagogue in Norwich. He pointed out that much Jewish humour derives from the times of persecution that Jews have suffered down the ages – being able to laugh at themselves was an aid to survival. He also pointed out that there are many well-known Jewish comedians, such as Danny Kaye, Woody Allen, and Peter Sellers. Alex then regaled us with many amusing Jewish jokes, told by Jews about or against themselves.
We much enjoyed Alex’s talk and he was thanked by the Chairman, Jack Broughton.
