Sir Norman Lamb outlined some of the major problems faced by the NHS, including, amongst others: ambulance delays, long waiting lists, delays in treating certain conditions, many people having multiple chronic conditions, care needs for people with dementia – and so on.
He said we should avoid waste– e.g. by sterilising used tweezers (expensive ones, at that!) and re-using them, instead of throwing them away! He also said that more political courage (as well as courage in the NHS leadership) should be used in tackling the tough problems and and he referred to how certain other countries run more efficient health systems.
