On 3 February we had an interesting talk from Simon White, Vice-Chairman of the Norfolk and Norwich Horticultural Society, on The Gardens of Norfolk. Simon showed a very wide-ranging knowledge of horticulture in general and of gardens in East Anglia and beyond. Using magnificent slides taken by himself, Simon talked about (for example) the shrub garden and the Spider Garden at Hoveton Hall, with displays of peonies, irises etc.; and we saw a photo of a purple “river” of herbaceous geraniums called Rozanne, at Bressingham Gardens. The Cambridge Botanic Gardens have displays of blue and purple flowers, and also of red and yellow flowers – all a delight to see. Many other places were mentioned, including Sheringham Park with its lookout tower and magnificent views, and also the Azalea walk at magnificent Stody Lodge.
